Lyndon B. Johnson
Lyndon B. Johnson was the commander in chief in the Vietnam war. He privately called Vietnam,“ a little piss-ant country.” After the Golf of TonKin attack, when the Vietnamese attacked and american ship with torpedos that made us declare war, Johnson shaped the war to fight it his way. Lyndon B. Johnson made the Vietnam war is war. He personally picked bombing targets. The enemy even made an attack on us when we were getting the upper hand. L.B.J. had put millions and millions of dollars into the Vietnam War. LBJ realized in 1968 the he lost the trust of a divided nation. He did not seek reelection after this.
Anti-protesters would chant, “Hey, Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?”
Richard Nixon
Richard Nixon was the president when Lyndon B. Johnson decided not to seek reelection. He brought home US. soldiers as soon as he could. Nixon brought the soldiers home under Vietnamization. Vietnamization was when we could evacuate all soldiers out of Vietnam, and we did. He was also the one who widened the Vietnam war to the rest of Indochina.
Ho Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the communist side of Vietnam. He was the one that made up the Vietcong. He was also the one who used the Ho Chi Minh to send the Vietcong down to get into South Vietnam. Ho Chi Min was the leader or the dictator of communist North Vietnam.
Vietcong
The Vietcong was the North Vietnamese army. They did not wear uniforms so they were hard to tell apart from anyone else in Vietnam. They used the Ho Chi Minh Trail to get to into South Vietnam to attack. They are the ones who fought strong and attacked south Vietnam.
E.J. Banks said this about the Vietcong,“You never knew who was the enemy and who was your friend, they all dressed alike. They were all Vietnamese. Some of them were Vietcong...The enemy was all around you.”
Dwight D. Eisenhower 1953-1961
Once said about the domino theory, “You have a row of dominos up. You knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is a certainty that it will go over very quickly. So you could have a beginning of a disintegration that would have the most profound consequences.” He said that n April 1954 when he was president. He was in office at one point during the Vietnam war. He help some with the Vietnam war.
